Chapter Twenty Six

Lucky got up on his fifteenth birthday. He went down stairs and looked for the
others. Stefan had just exited from Helena's sick room. "Keep it down. Mother
doesn't feel well," he said and joined him at the table.

Alexis and Nikolas joined the group later but Stavros wasn't anywhere in sight.
Stefan didn't like not knowing where he was but didn't think much about it. The
four of them decided to go down to the stables and have a ride. As soon as they
got to the barn, Stavros came out from the barn with four of his guards. They
quickly grabbed Alexis, Stefan, and Nikolas and tied their hands behind them.
Stavros grabbed Lucky and shoved him in the barn.

Stefan went white at the gruesome scene. Nikolas and Alexis went pale and felt
sick. Lucky didn't move from where he landed. Stavros pulled his head up to him
and ordered, "You are going to dig a hole and put your friend in it. You always
wanted a birthday present. So, now you have one," he said.

Lucky went to the back of the barn and started to dig. He slowly shut down and
didn't hear or see what was going on around him. Stefan tried to get free but it
was useless. The other guards had taken Alexis and Nikolas from the barn but he
refused to leave. He watched Lucky dig the grave. When the hole was deep enough
and wide enough to place Smokey (or what was left of him) in the grave, Lucky
started to place him in the grave. It took him four hours but the job got done.
He fell to his knees after filling up the hole. Lucky was covered in dirt, sweat
and blood. He hadn't made a sound all the time and Stefan was really worried
about him.

Stavros wasn't done. He grabbed Lucky by the neck and pulled him to his feet. On
the way up to the main house Stavros started to hit Lucky. He didn't react all.
Lucky just went along with everything. Stefan tried again to get free but the
guards wouldn't let him. When they got to the main house, Lucky was shoved in
front to the piano and Stavros demanded he play the old gray mare. He ordered
Lucky to play it until he said stop.

"Stavros don't do this. You made your point. You are in control and we are
nothing, just let him be," Stefan begged his brother.

"Why? I just got started," Stavros said and pulled Lucky's head back so he was
looking right at him. "Kid, I'm going to tell you the truth about your parents.
Your father didn't dump you on us or go to prison for smuggling. They have been
locked up in our prison for ten years. You have a sister who is just about five
years old and you will never see her. What happened today is preview of what is
going to happen next year. You are going to end up digging the graves of your
family and I might put you with them. You are here for revenge against the
deaths of my father and uncles, nothing more," Stavros let his head go and
shoved him back to the piano, to start playing.

Stavros didn't listen to the pleas of the group, he just forced Lucky to play
on. He played for hours until Stavros got tired of the game and headed to his
room to change. He ordered the guards to let the others go. They quickly went to
Lucky's side and checked him out. Stefan tried to get Lucky to look at him but
nothing was working. Stefan picked him up and took him up stairs to his room.
They cleaned Lucky up and placed him in bed. Stefan put in the CD and started
it.

The three of them took turns staying with Lucky. Stefan ordered the caretaker to
dig up the horse and bury it properly, somewhere on the hill. He wanted no sign
of the slaughter that took place earlier. Stefan waited until Helena was better
then he went to tell her what happened. She went ballistic and stormed into
Stavros' room. He wasn't seen for weeks after that but Lucky didn't move either.
He just lay in bed not moving at all.

He did come around a month later, but he wasn't the same person. Lucky spoke
when spoken to and did what as he was ordered but normally he sat in his room
and drew morbid and gruesome pictures. Nikolas talked him into going up the
cliff and Lucky relaxed a little bit. They sat and watched the planes and birds
fly over head. Nikolas started to ask him questions and the answers he got
frightened him.

"Lucas, are you all right?" Nikolas asked.

"No," Lucky said to him without much emotion.

"What are you thinking about?" Nikolas asked him.

"I am thinking about my plan," Lucky said flatly.

"What plan?" Nikolas asked a little afraid of the answer

"I'm going to beg Helena or Stavros to give me one day with my parents for my
next birthday. I don't think he will go through with that treat, but I don't
care any more. I'll spend one day of my life with my father, mother, and sister.
Then a week after my birthday, I'm coming up here and jumping," Lucky said
flatly.

Nikolas didn't know what to say. He stared in shock at his brother. Lucky didn't
even blink. They went down a little while later and Nikolas went to tell Stefan
what Lucky said. Stefan ordered all the sharp objects to be removed and Lucky
was put on twenty four hour watch. He wasn't allowed to be alone at all. Helena
was frightened that the plan that they worked on for so long wasn't going to
happen. Lucky wasn't responding to anyone, let alone to their brain washing. She
came up with a plan to get him help. Lucky wanted Luke and Laura. She was going
to give them to him.
