| Chapter Twenty Four (Lucky is fourteen and it is six months way from his birthday.) Laura got up to check on Lulu. She hadn't been feeling well when she went to bed really early that night. It was about five in the morning and the Spencers were accustomed in sleeping late. They didn't have anywhere to go and sleep helped kill the big part of the time. She placed a hand on her sleeping four-year-old. Laura suddenly let out a scream that jolted Luke out of bed. He noticed she was by Lulu's bed and was afraid they came and took her in the middle of the night. Luke ran to her side and asked, "What's wrong?" He looked down at his sleeping daughter and noticed that she was pale and her breathing was off. Luke went into the other room and started pounding on the glass door. He didn't get anywhere with that so, he picked up the kitchen chair and started slamming it against the glass. Guards rushed in and pointed their guns in his face. Luke ignored the guns and demanded, "Get the Cassadines and tell them my daughter needs a hospital and she needs it now." The guards didn't know what to say. Luke took one step forward and they quickly left the room. Stefan was jolted awake early that morning from the ringing of his phone. He picked it up and said a sleepy, "Hello?" Stefan listened to the man on the other end and quickly made a decision. "Get the little girl to the hospital and send Mrs. Spencer with her. Tell Laura I will be waiting for their arrival when she lands. I'll handle everything from this end. Someone will be there to deal with Luke in a few days but keep a close eye on him. He might use this to his advantage," Stefan said and wished it would happen. He quickly got out of bed and got dressed. He ordered the copter to be ready and went to inform Helena of the situation. She told him to keep her informed and had Alexis to check on Luke. They were gone by the time Nikolas and Lucky got up that morning. The two teenagers came down stairs talking about the plans they made for the day. They looked for Stefan and Alexis but they weren't around. Lucky didn't like it when they were gone. He had to deal with Helena and Stavros without anyone to help him. Nikolas asked, "Grandmother, where are Uncle Stefan and Cousin Alexis?" "There is a family problem. I will tell you later. Your plans have changed and I want Lucas to stay in his room until I say otherwise," she said coldly. Lucky didn't like it one bit but didn't argue. He learned long ago not to. They ate in silence and then Lucky went to his room. He stayed there for most of the day wondering what was going on. Nikolas said he would stop by and tell him but he didn't. Lucky worked on his assignments and studied for a test that was coming up but it was hard to concentrate. While Lucky was trying to figure out what was going on, Laura had arrived at the hospital. She was holding Lulu tight and didn't let her go until Stefan promised he would give her back. "Laura, listen to me. You are to pretend that you are my wife and this is our daughter. I was on business, when you called me. We will do everything possible to help her get well. Make one mistake and Helena promised me that she would kill Lucky," Stefan said as they headed to the waiting doctors. He handed the little girl over and they quickly went to work on her. Laura sat and waited with Stefan close by. He was praying that Lulu would make it at least for Laura's sake. He hated to think what would happen to her if the little girl died. Nikolas and Stavros arrived right then. Stavros stood in the background but Nikolas rushed to his mother. "How is she?" he asked, frightened of the answer. "We don't know yet but they are working on her," Laura said. Suddenly a doctor came out and said. "Mr. and Mrs. Cassadine, Your daughter is gravely ill. She has Aplastic Anemia and needs a bone marrow donor. The best donors are from the family. You can be checked out one at a time," the doctor said. "We have a son at home and I will have our doctors check him out or staff. We might have a real good chance in finding a match that way just in case we aren't," Stefan said. They all got blood tests, even Stavros who was forced into it by a phone call from Helena. She ordered the test for Lucky but wanted the results first before the hospital. The test took about two days and he ended up being the only match. Laura looked at Stefan. He waited until the doctors left before dropping his bombshell. "Laura, Helena said the only way you get Lucky's help is to give us legal custody," he said slowly. "She wouldn't," Laura cried but knew the answer. "If we don't sign that my daughter dies, and then I don't have any of my kids. Stefan you tell your blood- sucking mother that she gets the deal but I want a few things from this family first. You must swear to me, on Nikolas' life, that you will protect him with you life and promise me that Lulu will never be taken away. I also want Luke here for the rest of the time. I will handle him, you don't have to worry about that. Lulu is too sick for us to cause you too much trouble." "I'll tell her," Stefan said glad to see the old Laura once again. Stefan told his mother what Laura had said and Helena agreed. She made the arrangements for both Lucky and Luke to be moved. Lucky didn't know what was going on and he didn't like it. He tried to get someone to tell him but all he got was double talk. The Cassadine's doctor did take the marrow from Lucky and he had very few people close to him. Ironically, Luke, Laura, and Lulu were just a floor apart from their son. Luke detested the deal but he signed the paper only to get help for Lulu. Luke did think about killing all the Cassadine's but he didn't know who or where Lucky was and so he just sat back and watched his daughter. Stefan was thinking about helping the Spencers but he didn't get up the courage to betray his family. Two weeks later, Alexis took Lucky back to the island and the other Cassadine's relaxed a little. Helena didn't like having Luke and Lucky too close to each other. One sight of his son and Luke wouldn't be controlled any more. Lucky still didn't believe what he was told but let the matter slide. He was just too tired to fight any more. Chapter 25 Return to Cassadine Revenge |
