Chapter Eleven

Lucky came up with a plan to get Stavros to love him or at least stop hurting
him. He spent every Sunday in his room painting. The rest of the family was by
the pool and that was the one place no one could make him go to.

When Fathers Day arrived Lucky waited until Nikolas gave Stavros his present.
It was a solid gold pen and pencil set for his desk with his name engraved on
top. Lucky entered the room with a larger picture and a card in his hand. The
eight-year-old stood in front of Stavros shaking. This would be the first time
he ever spoke to Stavros first.

I made you something and I want to read you the card, Master Stavros. Is it all
right? He asked as politely as he could.

Helena nodded her head and motioned him to continue. Lucky softly spoke, This
is a painting of my family and I want to thank you for being a better father
than Luke ever could be to me. I hope you like it, and Lucky handed over the
painting.

Lucky had copied by free hand a picture of all of them standing around the large
fire place and for an eight year old it was really good. Stavros just stood
there looking down at him not saying a word. Everyone was hoping he would at
least act decent for once, but he didnt.

Stavros took the painting and card, and he walked to the fireplace and threw
them in. Even though it was middle of June, Stavros lit a fire burning both the
painting and the card. Lucky stood in the center of the room trying not to cry
but failed. He turned to Stefan and asked, May I be excused, Master Stefan?
Lucky asked, through his tears.

Yes, Lucas you may go, Stefan said, watching the boy turn and run out of the
room.

Helena looked at Stavros and demanded, In my office now!

When they were alone she looked at him coldly and said, You are a fool. You had
him right where we wanted him and you blew it. He was reaching out to you and
you threw everything back in his face. He would have turned on Luke, but now he
may not go against his father, at least not willingly. Stavros, you arent in
charge of things here. Methos is and you might have forgotten that. He isnt
around but he could be with a phone call from me. Get your act together or I
will call him. You do remember what he is capable of dont you? she asked him.

Yes, Mother. I havent forgotten because you wont let me. I do everything you
ask but like that boy. This isnt going to work. I know he will replace me and
Im going to destroy him just like you destroyed me. He said and turned to head
out of the room.

Helena just stood there in shock. Stavros never spoke to her like that at any
time in his life. You wont destroy him. Lucky is too much like his grandfather
and father. Ill find a way to turn the tables on you and Methos. Then my son,
we will see who will destroy who, she said in a cold voice.
