| Chapter Ten Lucky still wasnt sure that this would work. His friends tried to get him to come up with them but he wouldnt. He decided to stay in the car with the kittens. One of the little kittens was crying like a baby. He felt around for it and started to rock it back and forth. Hopefully little one, you will soon be eating. Audrey was inside talking to Tess. Im glad you decided to take up my offer in using one of my spare rooms. This place has been quiet since the girls left, she said. Im glad we both can help each other and Im sorry about the kittens. Gatsby sure isnt letting them go just yet. Tess replied. When the doorbell rang, Audrey got up to answer it. I wonder who that could be? Yes, I wonder? Tess said all ready knowing the answer. Audrey found Nikolas standing at the door with Emily and Robin. Well, what brings you all by? Audrey asked. Mrs. Hardy? We were wondering if you could help. We found some kittens and Monica Quartermaine said your cat had kittens. Could we try placing them with Gatsby? Maybe she would accept them. Nikolas asked. Sure, bring them in. She looks over at the car and suddenly saw Lucky. She was about to change her mind but Tess pushed past her. Come on kids. Lets get those kittens fed. They must be hungry. Tess said. Lucky. You didnt have to sit in the car. She said opening the car door. Get out and help me with the kittens. Lucky slowly climbed out and let Tess place the kittens in his jacket. Then she guided him up the walkway. Everyone had watched this with amusement except Miss Hardy. Who was glaring coldly at the group. They entered the kitchen and one by one pulled the dead kittens from Gatsby and replaced them with the living ones. Gatsby didnt fight. She started mothering them instantly. See, Gods creature know when to help the helpless. When you lose something, its good to lend a hand to the ones in need. Tess said looking at the kittens with a strange smile on her face. Lucky and Mrs. Hardy didnt know who she was replying to. The just knew it wasnt the kittens. It was Lucky who turned to leave. I have to get back home. Mom might wonder where Im at. Dont worry, Reggie took care of calling your parents. Youre ours for the rest of the day. Emily said helping him through the door. Tess watched the kids leaving and smiled at what was slowly happening. She turned to Mrs. Hardy. Who stood in the back ground frowning. If it wasnt for those kittens that boy wouldnt have come in this house. Audrey said and she started to go upstairs. Mrs. Hardy. I heard about your loss but taking your grand daughter's death out on Lucky isnt right. He lost her too and a lot more. He might need a little love right now not just from his parents. You could learn a lot from Gatsby about giving love. Tess said. Audrey just walked upstairs without a word. Tess knew though that her words were beginning to seep in. Youre getting there. You just need a little more time. Tess whispered to herself. Chapter 11 Back to Angels Lend A Helping Hand index |
