Total Northern White Rhinoceros Population as at 1985: 13 individuals,
due to human destruction of animals’ homes and habitat, and poachers’ slaughters for risibly tragic jewellery, or fanciful, superstitious aphrodisia.
Total Population as at 2003, thanks to human intervention in this species’ protection and breeding efforts: 40 individuals.
Obviously the Northern White Rhino remains critically in danger of total extinction, but does illustrate that we humans indeed make an enormous difference to the world - we must now decide, for once and for all, whether we will make a difference for the negative or for the positive. When one has the ability to allay the negative, is able to help, then why on earth wouldn’t one?
