~ Look at the Moon ~

Lance was roused from his sleep by the beeping of his cell phone.  Well, he assumed it was his, because it was in his room, but it wasn't a familiar ring.  In fact, it sounded suspiciously like the sound of the theme song for Star Wars...He roused himself, staring at the moonbeams that splashed across his bed.

"JC must've been screwing around with it again," he thought idly, remembering the last time it'd happened as he dug around the room looking for it.

He'd been standing around talking to Chris and JC when his pants had started ringing to the tune of Soft Cell's "Tainted Love." He'd nearly jumped out of his skin.

Chris had pointed lazily.  "Uhm, you've got somethin' in your pants, there."

JC had laughed, the high pitched laugh he'd been doing so much more of lately.  Lance smiled at it.  "Very funny, Chris," he said.  The two continued talking while he answered it, and when he was done, he hung up and frowned at the phone.  "That's odd, I usually have it set to vibrate during the day so if I'm in a crowd and can't he--"

"Your pants start vibrating?" Chris asked.

JC giggled again.  "Hey, two for two," Lance said, rolling his eyes.

"Well, you never know with you, you could be missing JC and just having your--"

"Okay, I so think this conversation is over," Lance had said, but JC was still laughing.

He finally found the offensive phone underneath his shirt, and answered it, smiling at the memory.
"Lance here," he said, clearing his throat when he heard how groggy it sounded.
"Lance?"

Lance woke up quickly.  "JC?  What's wrong?  What happened?"

"Nothing, I just.  I.  Never mind.  Sorry for--"

Lance frowned.  "JC, what's the matter?"

JC sniffled a little.  "I just.  I miss you," he said.  I couldn't sleep, I'm sorry for waking you u--"

Lance smiled.  "Hey," he said, "hey, it's okay, I miss you too.  I'm not sleeping very well either.  But we only have to do this for one more week, okay?  And then we'll have two all to ourselves."

"I know," JC said.  "I know, but I just.  I wish you were here," he sighed.  "It's already been two weeks--"

Lance sighed with him.  "I'm crap in the studio compared to you," he said.  "I'd just get in the way.  And besides," he said, grinning, "I might serve as a distraction to you."

Lance could hear the smile in JC's voice as he spoke.  "I wouldn't mind," he said.  "And you're not crap, you're--"

"Challenged?" Lance filled in.

"No, but--"

"Stop tryin', Jace," Lance said with a grin.

JC sighed.  "One week?" he asked.

"One week," Lance promised.  "Then I'll be done with some of this stuff down here, and I'll come kidnap you and we'll go somewhere."

"It's not kidnapping if it's voluntary," JC said.  He sniffled again but was sounding groggy, Lance noticed.

"All right then," Lance amended.  "I'll whisk you away from the evil studio tower in LA and we can ride off into the sunset."

"Sounds promising," JC mumbled.  "One week?"

"One week."

"How bout five days?"

"A week," Lance said firmly.

"Five days."

"A week!"

"Four?"

"JC!"

"What?"

"You're not supposed to lower it, you spaz," Lance said, shaking his head.

JC was grinning, Lance could hear it in his voice.  "I can if want to."

Lance sighed.  "Six days," he said.

"Deal."

Lance smiled.  "You tired yet?" he asked.

"No," JC said, yawning.  "Talk more.  What'd you do today?"

"Today?  Today...I took Meredith shopping--"

"You mean you took your clone shopping."

"She's not my clone!"

"The girl you, then."

"Whatever, JC.  We went shopping, I talked to my mom...Jace?"

"Hmm?"

"I'm losing you, dear.  Go to sleep, okay?"

"Okay," JC mumbled.

"Hey, do me a favor and look at the moon."

"Okay," JC said.  "Looking."

"Good," Lance said.  "Because I'm looking too."

Lance could almost hear the slow smile spread across JC's face as he spoke.  "So we're both looking at the moon."

"That we are.  Looks lonely, doesn't it?"

"It looks lonely," JC agreed softly.

"But it's not," Lance said.  "It's beautiful because it's got the sunbeams so it's not alone.  It's got the stars so it's not alone.  And you've got me, so you're not alone either. Whenever you're lonely I want you to look at the moon and remember that I'm looking at it too."

"You're looking at it too," JC repeated.
"And  I'll see you in six days, okay?"

"Okay," JC said.

"And you can call me whenever.  I don't care if it's..." Lance looked at the clock and winced.  "Two in the morning like it is now.  Okay?"

"Okay," JC said again, drowsy this time.

Lance smiled.  "Go to sleep, baby.  I love you."

"I love you too.  Six days."

"Six days," Lance repeated.  "G'night."

"G'night."

Lance waited for the clattering of the other phone before he hung up his own and turned over, staring at the moon and thinking that maybe he could leave in five days instead of six.
