ARTHUR HATHAWAY

Arthur 1
Hathaway arrived in America about 1630   settled in Plymouth and remained there. (New England Historic Genealogical Register 32-92) He probably came with his son, Arthur 2, but this distinction is rarely indicated and many printed records of this family confuse the two Arthurs.

Arthur 2, died 11 December 1711; his will is dated between 9 December 1709-1710.  He was married in Duxbury, MA, on 20 November 1652 to Sarah Cooke, daughter of John and Sarah (Warren) Cooke, and grandaughter of Francis and Hester (Mayhew/Mahiew/Le Mahieu) Cooke, and also a grandaughter of Richard Warren.  It is through his wife, Sarah (Cooke) Hathaway, that all of Arthur's descendants are eligible for membership in the Mayflower Society.

Arthur 2 and Sarah (Cooke) Hathaway lived in Duxbury, MA, when the older two children were born but later moved to Dartmouth, MA, before 1662.  A majority of Hathaways from the Dartmouth and New Bedford areas of MA are descendants of Arthur Hathaway.
