Book Summary ______________________________________________________________________________________
Harry Potter and the Socerer's Stone
Orphaned at 1, Harry Potter never fit in with the “normal” world of his aunt and uncle’s. Bizarre things always happen to him: like having his hair grow in overnight or letters addressed to him mysteriously appearing throughout the house in increasing numbers. The arrival of Rubeus Hagrid, a staff member from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry reveals the contents of the letters and introduces Harry to the world of magic. Harry begins his first year at Hogwarts and discovers the truth behind his parents’ death, the source of his lightning bolt shaped scar, the dangers of magic and the price of fame and victory over evil.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Harry begins his second year badly and it continues throughout the year. The Heir of Slytherin has risen again after 50 years of silence. Hogwarts inhabitants, especially the muggle-borns, are all under threat of petrification. Harry can hear voices no one else can and his unique ability is revealed, turning suspicion unto him. Desperate to discover the identity of the Heir after a friend is attacked, Harry ventures into dangerous situations to learn the truth. Culminating in a life threatening battle, Harry single-handedly confronts the unlikely Heir of Syltherin and real and personal demons.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Unable to stand life on Privet Drive, Harry runs away and spends the remainder of his summer in the wizarding world, but the ride to school exposes him to great darkeness. Dementors, the feared guards of Azkaban prison, are given reign on the Hogwarts Express and the school’s surrounding grounds to search for the infamous escaped prisoner Sirius Black. Severely affected by dementors, Harry relives the night of his parents’ deaths. Desperate to overcome this weakness, Harry seeks the help of his first competent Defense teacher, Remus J. Lupin. But, protection from the dementors does not protect his friends from hurt and loss. Teenage angst mixes with the annual adventure as Harry seeks more knowledge about his parents, their past, and the people they left behind.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
The reinstated Triwizard Tournament comes to Hogwarts. Hosting the Durmstrang and Beauxbaton student representatives, Harry’s school year is turned upside down when he is chosen as the unintended fourth champion. He is ostracized by his schoolmates and is forced to face the initial burden of the tournament alone. Darkness stirs in the outside world as Harry faces each trial, but both collide during the final task. Harry is kidnapped and experiences the horror of Lord Voldemort’s rebirth. Cornered into a duel with the Dark Lord, Harry must fight for his life against his parents’ murderer.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
After the disastrous events of the Triwizard Tournament, Harry and the rest of the wizarding world are left waiting for the war to openly begin. Dumbledore reconvenes the old Order of the Phoenix, warriors in the first fight against Voldemort, while the Ministry denials the claim of the Dark Lord’s rebirth. Pressure mounts as the Ministry exerts increasing influence within Hogwarts and the school becomes divided like never before. Harry comes under attack from all sides and as the conflict escalates so too does his connection to Voldemort. The first bells of war toll as Voldemort and his Death Eaters make their moves; and Harry learns what it means to lose a loved one first hand.
