This is the hastily-constructed homepage of the Leamington Spa alternative-radical newsletter, the Leamington Spark. Here you will be able to download the latest copy of the newsletter, access back issues, subscribe to our mailing list, and so on.
If you would like to receive copies of future editions of the newsletter automatically by email, please subscribe to the yahoogroup below ([email protected]). We will experiment with the best way to send it out but we are quite likely to either send it out in text format and/or PDF. (Or perhaps we will simply point you towards the appropriate link in the archive.)
Just a bunch of local people who want to take a fresh, alternative/radical perspective on local news and issues. (By 'radical' we mean radical in a progressive, green/left sense, rather than radical in a right-wing sense!) Sometimes this will involve taking a completely different view to local media such as the Courier and the Observer. Sometimes it will involve going into an issue to a depth that other local media are not capable of. We are heavily steered on a week-to-week basis by our editorial sessions, and consequently by the people who make an effort to get involved in these sessions:- see 'Editorial meetings' below.

As mentioned above, you can subscribe electronically to the Spark, and this way you receive the latest edition delivered direct to your inbox. This is the ideal way to receive the Spark, because it cuts down costs (and natural resource use!) for everyone. However, if there is sufficient demand we will experiment with postal subscriptions. Let us know if you'd prefer this option and we'll try and sort something out.
We will, of course, always produce a certain number of paper versions for distribution around Leamington. These will be available in all the usual places. Contact us if you would like hard-copies for your workplace, school, etc. etc. The Spark is copyright-free and, in fact, we actively encourage you to copy and distribute it! Less work for us that way :)
The content of each edition of the Leamington Spark is determined at the two editorial meeting(s) that take place before the issue is published. So, if you want to contribute material, please try and attend an editorial meeting. (If you really cannot make the meetings, contact us via one of the channels below, although we do prefer a face-to-face working relationship.)
The next editorial meeting will be on: Wednesday 10th March, 8.30 pm at Gaia, 7 Regent Place, Leamington Spa.
It costs a surprisingly large amount to produce a newsletter, what with photocopying costs, postage costs and expenses (travelling, phone calls). For example, to produce 100 hard-copies of Issue 1 cost £20 in photocopying costs. (Alternatively, if you know where we can do cheap printing/photocopying, that would also be very helpful.) Any donations would be most gratefully received as we are presently paying these costs out of our own pockets. If you want to donate, drop us a line and we'll talk about the best way you can do this.
