We scrutinized shading next.  The person with the most shading indicates the individual who causes the most anxiety in the family.  I had difficulty deciding this one, as I'd drawn everyone as sticks.  However I determined that I won, since I drew the most lines on my hair.  I felt the necessity to show its unruly and frizzy nature.  If the test meant to show that my hair causes me great aggravation, it would be correct.  But I won't be arrogant enough to say that I provoke the most anxiety in my family.  I know I've given my parents a few, mild, heart attacks.  Several stemmed from my frequent tearful calls from college.  But they endured the past years well, and only sprang a few gray hairs for their efforts.

I should also note that I included my cat and dog in the portrait. My teacher explained that some people consider pets as part of their family.   Some might question that my animals are fleshed out while my human family is not.  I will preempt this by stating that I only drew them this way because I could not figure out how to draw a stick dog or cat.  I do not view animals as more important than humans, but I do incorporate them into my family.  My parents have always given us the opportunity to own and raise animals.  I can't imagine life without a Nubbins, Teak or Lashes.  Pets will always be important to me, and I have my parents to thank for enabling me to grow up with so many.

What my teacher didn't analyze, but I submit as significant, was that I drew smiles on everyone's faces, and we were all holding hands.  This may sound cheesy (like stick figures aren't in the first place), but step back and mull it over.  It came naturally to draw us that way, because memories of my family are happy.  We've gone through rough times, but we've come through intact.  I know many people don't feel such positive feelings towards their family.  It's been a fundamental part of my life that I do.  Sometimes they are all that keeps me going.  I know that if I ever need them, my parents and sisters will be there to support and advise.  So what this little exercise instilled in me is though my drawing did them no justice, I have been blessed with a wonderful family, and am one of the luckiest stick figures around.
