| This book is Sophie's pick for the "Book of the Month" for May '06! | |||||||||||||||||||||
| I originally only read this book because it was written by a cousin of someone I know and she's LDS (Mormon). And I'm sooooooooooooo glad I did decide to read it. As this book is about vampires and I have a low threshold for scariness, this isn't my typical read. However, I really did like this book. It drew me in after the first few pages and I couldn't stop reading it. I actually read it in one day. The story centers around 17 year-old Isabella Swan , who has just moved to Forks, Washington to live with her father. Bella is worried about fitting in in the small town where it rains almost year-round. Bella actually finds friends quickly and many of the boys at her high school seem to be attracted to her. Then Isabella meets Edward Cullen, who is just about the most beautiful boy she's ever seen. Okay, so right now, I'm making this sound like one of those annoying teenage romance novels. But it isn't! I'm just not really doing the book justice...Edward seems extremely stand-offish at first. Bella has no idea why. Then a few days later, Edward is totally friendly. They end up in something of a relationship. Edward still acts rather strange sometimes, though. Bella begins to put the pieces together and soon finds out who...no, what Edward really is... Suspenseful, eh? I could spoil the plot tell you what Bella finds out (actually, I kinda already did), but if you just go look at the book, it actually tells you in the plot summary and the quote on the back. But I would feel all evil spoiling it, even though that isn't the most suspenseful part of the plot... Anyway, this is one of the ultimate-best books I've ever read. If you look on Barnes and Noble.com, every single reviewer (and there were a 303 of them) except for 11 gave the book five stars. Five of the 11 who didn't gave the book four. So the odds that you'll like this book are very high. Twilight is supposed to be the first in a trilogy of books. The next book, New Moon, I believe it's called, is supposed to come out in October. The third book is possibly going to be called Eclipse. The rights to the book have been bought and there is the possibility that a movie will be made. Of course, whoever makes the movie will probably totally butcher it, as they do almost every time (they killed Ella Enchanted). But still, the thought of a movie is exciting. Yet considering my low threshold for scariness (and that I can somehow read scary things but not watch them), I may not even see the movie. And if I do see it, it will be at home, with a blanket ready to cover my eyes if necessary. Sigh... |

| New Moon Coming September-October 2006 (Amazon says September 6, Meyers website says october) This is the sequel to Twilight. There's a short sneak peak of the book on Meyer's website, as well as a little more info. Argh! I don't think I can wait 'till October, September, whenever it is! Can't it just come out now?!?!?! I'm dying from anticipation! |
