Spindle's End is a retelling of Sleeping Beauty. You should already know that there were a king and queen, who after a long time had a baby, so they had a big feast. They invited all these fairies to give gifts, but they forgot one fairy. Her name was Pernicia in this story. So she got all angry, came to the feast anyway, and put a curse on the baby princess- that she would prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die (in my opinion, that fairy needed to take some anger management classes). Evil laughter, the fairy disappears, yadda yadda yadda. If you didn't already know all that stuff I just told you, then you are deprived, child. Seriously deprived.
This is where the story changes. Katriona, who is one of the fairies  invited to the ceremony, rushes up to the baby's crib and "kidnaps" her. But Katerina is actually the princess's savior. She spirits the princess away to her home in Foggy Bottom. Rosie, the princess, is never told of her true identity and believes that she had come to live with Katerina and her Aunt because her parents had died. Only Katriona, her aunt, and the animals of the forest know who Rosie really is. The rest of the Kindom believes that the Princess is in hiding. Little do they know that the king and queen are as unaware of her whereabouts as they are. Then there is an attack on a castle where the princess is believed to be staying, and from there on, things get worse. Pernicia is looking for the Princess. And as Pernicia grows closer to finding her, Rosie begins to understand who she truly is...
Rosie, her best friend Peony, and Rosie's "family" have a plan to save Rosie. But if their plan fails, Rosie's life-and the fate of the kingdom-are in grave danger...
Ooooh, suspenseful, eh? This is book is really good. I say that a lot, don't I? Well, it is! All of Robin McKinley's books are enchanting, and this novel  is one of the most spellbinding of all.
