Title: The Goose Girl
Author: Shannon Hale
Rating:***** (I would give it 100 if I could)
Review submitted by: bookworm_4816
The Goose Girl is a retelling of a little-know fairy tale (called the Goose Girl) by the Brothers Grimm. Fantasy nuts like me, The Goose Girl is the book you've been looking for! This book is Number 1 on my extremly lengthy list of extremely good books. I won't spoil the plot for you; all I can say is that it's really good (and much better than the Brothers Grimm version). It sticks pretty close to the original plot, except it makes much more sense. One major plus is that this book is actually written by an LDS author, so there's no profanity or not-so-good stuff. The book is almost 400 pages and is slightly slow at starting, but just keep reading! This is NOT a book you want to miss out on. I was sad when it was finished; not because it was a sad book, but because I wished it wasn't over! I absolutely LOVE The Goose Girl, and so does everyone else I know that's read it, so I can pretty much guarantee that you'll love it too!
SEQUEL(S)
(don't you just love it when good books have sequels?)
Enna Burning
This book focuses on Enna, a character who we first meet in The Goose Girl. Enna, like Isi, has a gift, and the story focuses on her struggle to control her new-found gift of fire speaking. (No, I'm not giving the story away. It says all this in the summary and B&N too.)

I really loved this book and wish I could read it again. Unfortunately, my local library doesn't have a copy, and my local Barnes & Noble is slow on restocking itself as well. Grr....

*Sophie growls in frustration* WHY can't something come out this summer?
Hiya, Razo! Razo, another character who appeared in
The Goose Girl as well as Enna Burning takes center stage.

Book description courtesy of Amazon.com
"
Razo has no idea why he was chosen to be a soldier. He can barely swing a sword, and his brothers are forever wrestling him to the ground. Razo is sure it's out of pity that his captain asks him to join an elite mission--escorting the ambassador into Tira, Bayern's great enemy.
But when the Bayern arrive in the strange southern country, Razo discovers the
first dead body. He befriends both the high and low born, people who can perhaps provide them with vital information. And Razo is the one who must embrace his own talents in order to get the Bayern soldiers home again, alive.
NewberyHonor winner Shannon Hale returns the reader to the intrigue and magic of Bayern, first introduced in her critically acclaimed novel, The Goose Girl. Enter a world where even those with no special magical skills find in themselves something they never imagined."

Oooh. Can this book come out sooner please?
OTHER BOOKS BY SHANNON HALE
Princess Academy
I was initally hesitant to read this book, as the title brought to mind images of ditzy girls learning poise and table manners and how to bat their eyelashes, all so that they would be presentable princesses. This is definitely not the case. Princess Academy is the stirring tale of the girls of Mount Eskel, especially one named Miri. Miri has lived on Mount Eskel all her life, but things change when it is announced that the king's prospective wife is to be found on Mount Eskel. Yes, the girls are trained to be proper princesses, but there's more. Miri finds out who she really is. And that is worth much more than being a princess, isn't it?

Princess Academy is a Newberry Honor book.
Shannon Hale is also collaborating on a graphic novel with her husband, Dean Hale. It is entitled "Rapunzel's Revenge." Release date currently unknown.

Shannon is also working on a novel called "Diary of Lady's Maid."

Another project, release date also unknown, is an adult novel which will either be called Austenland, or Ostensibly Jane. Or maybe even "Austensibly Jane." Whatever the title may be, I'm looking forward to it. Obviously, it has something to do with Jane Austen.
