U 16's Sat.25th Sept. 2004 Hindsford Bandits 3, Blackbrook 3
Today's game was between last seasons champions Hindsford and Blackbrook,; who some people are already tipping as this seasons potential champions.
The game was very entertaining with a particularly bizarre period in the first half in which 4 goals were scored in 5 mins.
Hindsford started well with Dale Glover slipping through the Blackbrook defence and almost scoring in the first minute and then Ryan Jones shot just over the bar after 8 mins. The Bandits had a strong penalty claim for handball turned down after 10 mins and came close again after 21 mins when Daniel Banks set up Dale Glover who shot just wide. Meanwhile the Bandits defence were coping well with the few attacks which Blackbrook had.
Then came the bizarre 5 minute period.
After 25 mins Hindsford took a deserved lead when Ryan Jones finished well after Dale Glover and Daniel Banks set him up, but Blackbrook went down the other end and forced a corner from which they equalised from a Bandits own goal after 26 mins.
Then after 28 mins Blackbrook took the lead when they caught the Hindsford defence wrong-footed and scored from inside the penalty area.
After 30 mins, to the amazement of the watching Bandits supporters, they gave away another own goal and found themselves 3-1 after dominating the game up until this point.
Thankfully the game settled down again and the teams went in at half time with Hindsford wondering what had gone wrong.
Half-timeHindsford Bandits 1 Blackbrook 3
Hindsford forced an early corner which came to nothing and then Blackbrook had probably their best spell of the game, Lance Heath in the Hindsford goal had to make two good saves as the Bandits tried to push forward and get back into the game.
Jonathan Banks had to go off injured after 60 mins making a last ditch tackle in stopping a Blackbrook attack
The next goal would obviously be crucial and it came the way of Hindsford after 67 mins when Dale Glover side stepped two defenders to coolly finish and bring the scores to 2-3.
This spurred Hindsford on and they forced a number of corners, and from one of them Matt Langin headed home the equaliser after 74 minutes.
The Bandits could sense a win now and pushed hard at the Blackbrook defence and in the last 2 mins almost got the winner.
First the Blackbrook keeper made a great save from Dale Glover pushing the ball round the post for a corner. From the corner Adam Murphy almost scored but shot narrowly wide.
Then in the last seconds Ryan Jones shot just over the bar for the Bandits after good work by Kris Smith.
In the end it was a good comeback by Hindsford after being 3-1 down, but a draw was the very least they deserved.
For Hindsford, good performances by Lance Heath in goal and Steve Eccles and Adam Farnworth in defence, also Ryan Jones and Matt Langin in midfield.
While Dale Glover and Daniel Banks worked hard in attack.
