Driving in Ireland

To Ireland Tour
The Opel mini van we rented at Shannon Airport served us well. It got very good gas milage and had no mechanical problems.
Being the only authorized driver, I drove every one of the over 1500 miles we logged on our journey.  Debbie was happy to let me do the driving and since I love driving this was no problem!

Driving on crowded city streets was a little nerve racking. The streets tend to be very narrow by Amercian standards. The street signs are frequently unclear, hidden on buildings or just not there. A few times I forgot to drive on the left side but quickly corrected my error without incident. Also a few times I hit the curbing with the left side wheels until I learned to adjust to driving from the right side.

Driving thru the countryside was a real treat. There was little traffic and for a former Boston cab driver the
mountain roads are better than any amusement park ride!

Note that the car rental company doesn't supply the van with hub caps. They'd just get knocked off by tourists hitting curbs.
L.D. at beehive hut. I welcomed breaks
from driving  to check out the sites!
Unlike when they were little kids, Julia and Kevin were terrific passengers.  Here they share a snack during one of my frequent photography stops.
