Fashion World

1970's
by Dandee Toys
Fashion World dolls were made by the Dandee Toy Company very soon after Topper Dawn hit the shelves, so she is truly one of the first clone dolls besides Mattel's RockFlowers to compete with Dawn in the toy market.

Fashion World dolls have bodies similar to Dawn's with the jointed hips, neck and shoulders and a twist waist, but they do not have the pin joint that would allow the legs to click into a bended position. Instead, the legs are made of plastic with some "give" to them, but they don't really hold a pose. They have rooted hair in brunette or blonde (I suspect redhead, too, though I haven't seen one), and have rooted eyelashes.

There is also a very hard to find African-American Fashion World doll.
They are marked simply "Hong Kong" on their backs.
Boxed dolls at left. Each doll came in a halter-neck dress and white boots. The dresses were always the same style, and only the color changed.
You can see the similarities between the Topper Dawn body and the body for the Fashion World doll. The waist is less slanted, however, and the plastic is softer and more bendable. There are wires embedded in the legs to help them bend, but they really don't hold very well.

This very-hard-to-find African-American Fashion World clone was given to me by Suz Rostrum.
(Thank you, Suz! I love you!)

"Keshia" is wearing a fashion started, but not finished, by Jamie. I finished the outfit and Keshia claimed it as her own.
