| Charles Fort was constructed in 1678 by Bill Robinson. It was besieged in 1690 by the Duke of Marlborough, and was heavily damaged in the Irish Civil War of 1922. From 1973 until the present day, it is an open tourist attraction, complete with a tea shop in the old stables. We spent a few hours here and ive never been to a bigger or better castle. What makes me laugh is that the Bastion, that is the last possible place of retreat is now the toilet block. |

| The building on the skyline at the very back is the visitor centre containing the history, uniforms and artefacts of Charles Fort. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The long block facing you is the main barracks and parade ground in front. The parade ground is reputed to be haunted. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
