About the Lexington Chinese School of Taiwan
The Lexington Chinese School of Taiwan was established in 1984 by a group of
Taiwanese parents who wanted to pass on the Chinese culture and language to
their children. We are affiliated with Taiwan, and receive part funding and
teaching materials from there. We also receive funds by fund-raising by the
parents of LCS-Taiwan.
We teach Traditional Chinese, the original form of Mandarin, at LCS-Taiwan.
We use a zhuying system, a set of letters like the alphabet, to help
pronounce the traditional Chinese characters. The zhuying system provides
the most accurate pronunciation for Mandarin. (Information on the Chinese Languages) We hold classes every Sunday at
University of Kentuckys Dickey Hall. Four classes, including a class for adults
emphasizing conversation, are currently being held. The classes are open to
anybody who wants to learn Mandarin. You can contact us if you are interested.
