These are some things to know about the writing test in order to succeed on March 2. . .
1. There are 3 different possible CATEGORIES of prompts . . .

Definition
2. After you have identified which category the prompt fits, there are 3 different FORMS of prompts . . .
a. letter
b. speech
c. article
3. After you have identified the form, decide who your AUDIENCE is . . .
a. is it a group or an individual?
b. is it local, state, or national?
Your next step depends on the type of prompt you are dealing with.

Definition
1.  Identify the problem

2.  Tell how bad the problem is, giving details

3.  Offer 1 or more solutions

4.  Prove that your solution(s) will solve the problem: explain why it/they will work

5.  Explain other advantages to your solution
1.  Look for the word cause or the word effect to decide which the prompt is asking about, or if it is both.

2.  Identify the event or circumstance the prompt is addressing

3. Offer 1 or more cause or effect according to the prompt

4.  Explain how the cause(s) or effect(s) you chose is related, or connected, to the event or circumstance
1.  Identify the term (usually 1 or 2 words) the prompt is asking a definition for

2.  Consider where the word came from or how it evolved

3.  Explain what the term is NOT

4.  Explain the
connotations, or feelings, that come with the word and why

5.  Explain cultural details that influence what the word means on a deeper level
