Match Report

vs Oakland Community College.  October 4th 2001

So the team entered their Oct. 4 match against Oakland Community College
with a record of 2-3, both wins coming by way of penalties and by forfeit.
The third type of win was an old-fashioned regulation win, as they dominated
Oakland 7-1. Dating back to last year, LCC is now 3-0 against OCC.
"We're getting better all the time," said head coach Jorge Gonzalez;
"Hopefully someone will hire us." He makes a reference to "hiring" because
the team is currently collecting data and support to hopefully make the team
a varsity sport for next season.

The team had an excellent first half, taking advantage of Oakland's poor
communication and teamwork. LCC created a lot of scoring chances early and
connected on three of them. Sarhan headed a corner kick home in the 8th
minute, and Platt scored two goals in four minutes, and the team entered
halftime confidently with a 3-0 lead.

"Now that we're getting used to everyone and their different
styles, we're really starting to play as a team," said Platt.

After an Oakland goal off a deflection in the 60th minute, that seemed to
be a wake up call for LCC. One minute later Brent Wheeler broke free on a
breakaway from a through ball from Sarhan, and made no mistake on the
finish. Two minutes after that, Platt put the game out of reach with a blast
from close range to make it 5-1.

Platt later solidified his man of the match, (and The Lookout's Bi-Weekly
Elite Award) by scoring his fourth and fifth goals late in the game.
"We came out strong , but then we just dropped to their level of play and
started getting sloppy," explains Taylor, "But a win is a win."
The Soccer Club will finish up its season this week with a rematch at
Oakland CC, and with the home finale against Calvin College.
