Match Report
at Alpena Community College. October 4th 2001
This game was always going to be tough. With injuries taking its toll into the season the conditions were worsened when, on are way to Alpena we hit a snow storm, leaving about an inch of snow by the time the front moved.
LCC lined up a new 5-3-2 formation aimed at quickly counter attacking on the break. Alpena Won the toss and chose to kick with the wind, and LCC defended the first half with the added pressure. The system worked pretty well despite further injuries forcing players to play out of position, and half time came and the score was still 0-0.
To the dismay of LCC, the weather took a strange twist and the sun came out for halftime. Already upset that we would not have the wind advantage things got worse when the wind actually changed direction and started blowing back in our faces again.
Despite a number of LCC chances, most notably Ebele who had his shot saved from the keeper from close range, Alpena took the lead at about the 70th minute. A corner came in and the ball was cleared, it was fired back in, deflected, and fell to an Alpena player who made it 3rd time lucky from a tight angle.
The game was not over yet, and LCC managed to take control of the game. Mark
Spanier clipped the crossbar, Ebele again came close and LCC failed to
capitalize on any of four consecutive corners, the game ended
1-0.
