This is the first season for Lansing Community College’s Soccer Club team. Run by head coach Jorge Gonzalez, with Club President and assistant coach Scott Newman-Bale the stars have an eight game season this year.

The team started their season against Calvin Community College, with a 4-0 loss. “The game went fine, since it was the first time we played in competition together,” said Gonzalez.

Actually the team had really only practiced together for a week before their first game.

“We have great depth, sense we are actually a club we don’t have to follow all NJCAA regulations,” said Newman-Bale when asked on the team’s strengths.

Both coaches would like to see the team grow together with chemistry, positioning, and general organization out on the field.

Recently, on Sept. 20, the Stars played against Kellogg Community College on. Although the Stars lost 4-2, they did manage to get their first two goals of the season. Nick Baxter scored in the 19 minute of play, while Bendar Hambazazah added another goal in the second half.

Unfortunately, the Stars suffered a few injuries in this game as well. Co-captain Eric Cole suffered an ankle sprain, and Jordan Grauer injured his wrist. Both are doubtful for the Stars next game.

“Our biggest goal will to ultimately end up with a winning record,” said Newman-Bale. The women’s soccer club still has spots available for players, while the men’s team is currently full. Coaches recommend that any interested players stop by practice. Practices are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 4:15 pm to 6 pm, at Dwight Rich Middle School.

This years home games are played at Kenneth H Hope Soccer Complex, on Aurelius road.
