What is a Student Trustee Anyway?
Jessica Schlimmer
Student Trustee

What is a student trustee? What does he/she do?     As I was having petitions signed prior to the Student Trustee election that allowed me to run, these were the questions of many people who signed my form. To be honest, I didn’t have a clue to what I would be doing at the beginning.
Now, I have an idea, and I learn more about it each time I talk to fellow members of the board. My job is similar to being part a student council. I am the liaison between the Board of Trustees and the Student Government Association. Basically, I get to hear how the students feel about the new things that might happen at Lewis and Clark.

Who am I? I am a freshman and I plan on majoring in Law. I graduated from Civic Memorial in 2001, and was an active member in student council while I played sports.
I am part of the LC Trailblazer’s basketball team (we need some more fans for next season!) and hold a part time job. I hope to take on this position with determination to make this  a learning experience.

And the $500 Goes to... Eleden
By Amy Porter
Editor in Chief

Loyal WLCA listeners waited all summer for their chance to win five hundred dollars with their TheBANK of Edwardsville “ID Key Chains.” On Aug. 23, they got their chance.
At 3 pm, key chain holders assembled at TheBANK’s Alton Northport location.
“I’m here for the money,” said LC student Ryk Lewis. “I would be so stoked for five-hundred bucks. It’s kinda like winning the lottery. Now I understand why gambling is addictive. “
“My mom gave me her ID key chain. If I win I’ll use the money for a trip to San Francisco,”
sais LC student Elaine Myers.
“I got my key chain at Bowl Haven,” said BAC student Courtney Mathus. “I came out to see my favorite person, Chris Unthank (WLCA Promotions Director). He promised me a WLCA T-shirt a long time ago. I’ve traveled many miles to get this shirt.”
Along with the money, WLCA gave away TheBANK of Edwardsville umbrellas, pens, and digital calendar/calculators, Jimmy John’s sandwiches, cups and magnets, balloons, T-shirts for WLCA and Dead Serious Designs, and 60 pairs of concert tickets. Jimmie Johns catered with seemingly endless supply of sandwiches and soda. Tickets included Crush, Battery, New Found Glory, Dishwalla, Jerry Cantrell, Dashboard Confessionals, Plea for Peace, Mest, Finch and Unwritten Law.

Winners needed not be present to win, but many stuck it out through the heat to wait for the winner to be announced. At 4:15, the crowd counted down and the drawing began. Everyone was promised to win something, as each name to be drawn was a loser in the $500 contest.
Amanda Valentine from “The Top 9 at Noon” announced losers one by one and added their names into a drawing for concert tickets. As Valentine stumbled over various last names, Unthank assisted in the reading and Chad Eckhard kept count.
Literacy is not strictly enforced at Lewis and Clark!” declared Unthank..
A nearly successful dance contest for WLCA T-shirts was run by Joe Mellenthin from the “Me and V in the Morning.” There was little interest from the crowd, but Julia Batty and Jessica Ivanuck took home shirts.

At 5:15, Joshua Eleden of Godfrey, the last name in the “hamster wheel,” was awarded the cash on the spot. He was initially in shock, but very happy. “I feel awesome,” said Eleden. “This money could come in handy.” His ID Key Chain came from TheBANK itself.

Mellenthin prompted Eleden to call off work for the day, but his boss didn’t answer the borrowed cell phone’s call.
