Eve6 Is still having fun

Eve 6 is a band that has caught listener’s ears with their songs about relationships and heartbreak. They first caught a level or notoriety in the music industry with their single Inside Out of the band’s self titled album. Proving that they weren’t just your one hit wonder the band again hit radio with the songs "Promise" and "Here’s To the Night," now they’re back with a third album titled "It’s All In Your Head," which has already produced the radio single "Think Twice."

The Bridge talked with the band’s guitarist, Jon Siebels, to give its readers some insight on the band, the new album and lead singer Max Collins’ controversial hotel lobby escapade.

Bridge: What was your environment like growing up?

Jon Siebels: I grew up in the suburbs of Los Angles with my parents who were both musicians. My mom’s a piano teacher, and my dad’s a freelance writer.

BR: When exactly did you start playing an instrument?

JS: I took piano lessons from my mom when I was young, and I started playing guitar in 6th grade.

BR: How did the formation of Eve 6 come about?

JS: Max Collins (lead singer) and I hooked up in high school, as far as a drummer we went through two different people before meeting our current drummer, Tony Fagenson.

BR: How would you describe the band’s sound?

JS: I don’t really know. We have been given a lot of different labels, but if I had to classify it, I would say rock and roll.

BR: Do you think there is a theme for the new Eve 6 album?

JS: We feel it’s a coming of age type record, and a lot of the songs are about being a person in their 20s dealing with the world. As always though, we try to write songs that people can relate to.

BR: Now for the popular question. What was the story about Max Collins causing a public display with shaving cream and his manhood?

JS: Well, it was our first show out of town in two years. We played a show at like 2:30 in the afternoon that we just flew in for. We were by ourselves bored at a hotel by the airport waiting for our departing flight, and Max decided to have a little fun. I guess Pittsburg isn’t into the idea of fun and alcohol.

BR: Do you see this becoming part of Max’s onstage act, anytime soon?

JS: I don’t know. Max is one of those people that you never know what he’s going to do He’s done stuff like this before, but this time he happened to get arrested for it.

BR: How do you keep yourself from being bored on tour?

JS: Get naked and run through the lobby of the hotel! Seriously though; this tour has just been crazy, and we haven’t really had much time off. Usually though, we try to just do whatever to have peace and quite.

BR: What are your expectations for the new album due to your last two albums reaching top 40 success?

JS: Mostly, I want to just want to keep making records that the fans can be into and love. As long as were doing that, then it’s cool. Hopefully the radio will come, but if it doesn’t, we definitely have a great group of fans.

BR: What was the story behind your signing with RCA while your band was still in high school?

JS: We started in 9th grade, and we sort of got hooked up with this little independent label in Orange Country, CA and through them we started getting managed from this lady who did a college radio show. She knew someone at RCA and sent them some stuff we recorded live. RCA then came out and saw a showcase and signed us off of that. It wasn’t really a developmental deal, but a regular deal under the assumption that we would finish high school. We had a couple years to develop and prepare, then the summer after we graduated, we made a record.

BR: What do you see as the future for Eve 6?

JS: As long as we still have our fans coming out to see us then we will keep going. I just don’t want to be one of these bands left in the past out there still performing even though people don’t know want to see them anymore though.

Greenwheel Performing at VH1 Christmas Charity

VH1 will be sponsoring Greenwheel and many other local bands on December 19 and 20 at Mississippi nights. The shows will have 2 acoustic bands for both nights, which will include:  442, Bent, Fuse and Unchained. Greenwheel will play the first night, and Just Add Water will play the second night.

After weeks of practice, this is Greenwheel’s first show since the summer.  Ryan Jordan, lead vocalist, talked to his manager about it and wanted to hook up with VH1’s ‘Save the Music.’ He said, “We know a lot of schools are struggling with having a music program, and we want to help out the St. Louis schools and the local bands in the area.”

Greenwheel is hoping to sell out both nights and bring in plenty of money for the charity. Jordan wants to see the community come together for this event. He said “It has been crazy trying to get this show going.”  He goes on to explain that the Pageant had booked another show at the time as the VH1 event, which could interfere with expected ticket sales.

As if that weren’t enough, the band learned that making the gig a full day event, like they had wanted, was going to cause complications. “We wanted a show that would involve the fans going out for food and {not?} being able to get back in,” said Jordan. “We are glad that Greenwheel and the bands are playing at Mississippi night instead of The Pageant.”

Greenwheel will be putting a CD together of all the bands that will play at this event and will be selling them one night only. “We still have one problem and that is if we are going to switch gear or play the same gear,” said Jordan. Greenwheel has been writing new songs for their upcoming CD release in June. Greenwheel will also throw a 3 week concert before their CD is finished.

“We will be playing new and old songs at this benefit,” said Ryan. The band has been playing around town for a while and wanted to keep this event local as possible. They are hoping to have a great show; plenty of fans and helping these bands get more attention.

A Christmas Carol Comes To The Fox

The Charles Dickens’ classic “A Christmas Carol” will be playing the Fox Theatre for six performances, December 18-21.  Show times are Thursday and Friday at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday at 2 &7:30 p.m.; and Sunday at 1 & 6 p.m.

The fully staged musical version of Charles Dickens’ classic story has become somewhat of a St. Louis tradition. This will be the eighteenth time that this particular production has played at the Fox!  The Nebraska Theatre Caravan who will be performing the show, have been touring this adaptation since 1979.  This is one of the most widely seen productions of the Dickens’ tale in the nation, annually performing for 120,000 people in over 60 cities in the United States.

“A Christmas Carol” is about penny-pinching businessman Ebenezer Scrooge, who cares about nothing except, where his next dollar is going to come from.  People close to him mean nothing, and the Holidays mean even less.  That is until one Christmas Eve, when three ghosts give Scrooge a visit and a new perspective on life.

Tickets for “A Christmas Carol” range from $28.50 to $14.50.  Tickets are on sale now at the Fox Theatre box office and all MetroTix locations.  To charge by phone, call MetroTix at (314) 534-1111 or order on-line at metrotix.com.

CD Reviews

Brand New ***  Self-Titled Columbia
Crossfade is a southern rock foursome, who originally formed in the late 90’s. After a couple name changes and a deal with Sony records, the group is on it’s way to national recognition. The album starts with “Starless” a song that displays an adrenaline-fueled opening riff, but an offbeat melody. From there the album goes in a mixed effect spiral, which highlights likeable tunes in “The Deep End” “Death Trend Strata” and “No Giving Up” but undesirable ones in “Dead Skin” “Disco” and “The Unknown.” The overall feeling of this album is one of average perception. The listener is not getting one full type of music, but instead various styles thrown together. If the band would just focus more on perfecting a single style, their music would be that much more enjoyable. span>

Campfire Girls **** Tell Them Hi Interscope
The band has a nice chilled alternative sound, which makes their music for the most part, pretty easy on the ears.  The band’s slot on Lollapollza 03 didn’t hurt either.

P.O.D. ****  Payable On Death Atlantic
The latest P.O.D. album is now on shelves and the transition to new guitarist Jason Truby seems to have been a success.  The music has somewhat of a different feel to it, but it’s still good rock music.

The Haunted Mansion ***  Soundtrack Disney
As an adult, don’t expect very much from this album.  The Barenaked Ladies track “Grim, Grinning Ghosts” is embarrassing, Nelly’s “Iz U” isn’t even on the album and they put Oingo Boingo on CD.  If you want to pick it up for a child go ahead, but I don’t suggest picking it up for yourself.

Hilary Duff ***1/2  Santa Clause Lane Disney
Disney’s striking while the iron’s hot on this one.  Hillary Duff just released her debut album and yet, she already has a Christmas CD out in the same year.  Basically it’s pretty much Christmas music with a pop sound to it.

Johnny Lang ****  Long Time Coming Interscope
Johnny Lang has been playing since he was twelve years old.  . If this is what the new generation of blues sounds like, then it’s got my attention.

Leaves ***  Breathe Dreamworks
This fairly new Icelandic band has already grabbed the praise of the British press, comparing them to the likes of Coldplay and Radiohead.  The album itself has a laid back contemporary sound to it, which helps explain the comparisons.

Totally Hits 2003 ***  Compilation BMG
The album features singles from Justin Timberlake, Missy Elliott, Uncle Kracker and Avril Lavigne among others.  The problem comes when you find out how outdated some of this music is.

Jonah33 ****  Self-Titled Ardent
In rock among other forms of music, there are undesirable lyrics present.  You don’t have to worry about that with Jonah33.  The band still has a nice rock sound, but their message is GOD.

Fingertight ***1/2 In The Name of Progress Columbia
The band combines the styles of post grunge and California hardcore for a good overall sound.

Mighty Side Show ****  Part Of Something MightySideShow.com
For their second album, “Part Of Something” the Chattanooga, TN natives put together a nice sounding rock CD. The band’s single “Mirror” is currently getting airplay on Springfield
, IL rock station, WQLZ.

Stone Temple Pilots ****  Thank You Atlantic
First off the bad news, word is out that STP has yet again split up.  The good news is that their greatest hits rock. CD is now out in stores.  The new album includes songs like “Days Of The Week”, “Sour Girl”, “Creep” and an acoustic version of “Plush” among others.

Jars of Clay ****  Who We Are Instead Essential
The same Jars of Clay who formed at
Illinois Greenville College are back, this time with their seventh album.   The sound contained on the new CD, is a pretty mellow Christian rock.  It’s good to see an area band with such a positive message, succeeding the way this one has.

Lo Pro ***  Self-Titled Geffen
If you haven’t heard, this is Staind front man, Aaron Lewis’s project outside of the band.  Lewis pulled double duty not only handling A&R for them, but also executively producing their new album.  Whatever good he sees in them though, I seen even less.  The music doesn’t really have that much catch appeal, its basic new millennium hard rock.

 Video Game Reviews

Wrestlemania 19 Gamecube ***
The game play is cool, but they decided for whatever reason to keep season off the game.  Instead of season, they replaced it with some type of action hero mission, which could be left off.  On the bright side, the game does have a cell match available, now.

SmackDown! Here Comes The Pain (PS2) ***1/2

THQ/Yukes has the right idea with this series.  They pretty much are taking the past edition each time and advancing it.  Examples of this include the new story mode, grappling feature and added match types.  Fans get the chance to play their friends, family or foes in the elimination chamber for the first time.  The grappling system in personal opinion still isn’t up to the “Wrestlemania” game standards, but it will do.

DVD Reviews

King of the Hill Season 2
20th Century Fox
This new season two set features 22 commercial- free episodes of King of the Hill.  It may seem awesome at first, but the feeling tended to wear down after I realized I’ve seen a certain amount of them on TV already.  Not to take away from the product though, I’m certainly glad this is in my collection.

Charlies Angels Full Throttle (unrated version)
Columbia Tri-star
I didn’t handle the first Charlie’s Angels movie, but I thought I would give this one a try.  Wrong choice there, the movie was just lame.  The plot pretty much revolves around two things, Dylan Sanders (Drew Barrymore) dealing with a killer estranged husband and the girls feud with ex angel Madison Lee (Demi Moore).  In addition, to a undesirable plot, the special effects were also less than intriguing to watch.  Leave this one on the video stores shelves.

Trish Stratus 100% Stratusfaction Guaranteed
WWE
This documentary just left unsatisfied  and uninterested.  The material was pretty basic and the extra’s could have been better.
