HPT Tips:

1. Don't test before 10 DPO, with the very rare exception you will be wasting your money. Implantation is needed for the levels to rise enough to be detected and implantation can occur from 4-12 DPO.

2. Use first morning urine, it has the highest concentration of HCG.

3. Pee in a clean cup and dip the stick for the alloted time (5, 10, 20 seconds, make SURE to read the time for THAT test brand). Too much or little saturation will skew results.

4. Set the test facing with the window up on a flat surface and LEAVE IT ALONE until the allotted time to read, no picking it up just to 'see if its getting a line'!! Don't do it!!

5. Read the results within the allotted time then throw it away and leave it away, tests keep on having chemical reactions and can look positive later when they're really not!!

6. HPT's test for HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) which is present in amounts larger than 5miu in pregnant women. It is always present in small amounts but those won't cause a positive test result as the HPT's start testing at 20miu and go up from there. Progesterone, clomid, recent sex and other such things will not affect the results. HCG shots and drugs with HCG for IUI or IVF will affect the results as will having some residual HCG from a recent pregnancy.

7. If it is negative and you still don't get your period then wait at least 2 days before doing another one as HCG takes 2-4 days to double in volume.

8. A line is NOT always a line. If in doubt wait and test again. Some tests are more reliable than others, check around before you buy and don't just go by price.

9. There are such things as evaporation lines and that is why you shouldn't read a test past the alotted time.

10. Good Luck and HAPPY testing!!
