LONG BEACH RECREATION DOG PARK ASSN.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS CANDIDATES

June 12, 2006

These individuals have declared themselves candidates for the five seats up for election this year and have met the nominee qualifications stipulated in the association's Bylaws. The three candidates who receive the most votes will win the three-year seats; those with the next two greatest totals will get the one-year seats. New board members will be installed at the board's August meeting.

Lillian Estrada: Candidacy withdrawn; moving out of the area.
Marti Gossland: Marti, of Lakewood, says she would love to help develop and expand the dog parks in Long beach. Some of the things she'd like to see accomplished are:

-- Greater benefits for members, such as discounts from local groomers and pet supply stores
-- Expansion of the dog park and the esttablishment of a new dog park nearer to Lakewood and North Long Beach
-- Greater financial sponsorship from coorporations, and increased revenues so we can finance expansion projects
-- Publication of a book about the dogs at the Long Beach dog park to increase revenues

The reasons she believes that she's a good candidate:
-- She is at the dog park daily, "SSasha" loves everybody and is a great goodwill ambassador (except when she jumps on you ...)
-- She says she's not a prima donna, shee's willing to pick up poop (not just "Sasha's"), rake, sweep, what ever it takes to improve the park.
-- She is willing and able to spend timee outside of monthly meetings in order to get things done.

Carolyn Reed: Carolyn, of Long Beach, currently serves as secretary. She was appointed to the board in 2001 to fill a vacant seat and has been elected since. Her dogs are "Sarah," "Roddy" and "Kody."
Natalie Rice: Natalie was born in Chicago and moved to Long Beach 30 years ago. Four years ago, while living in Cambodia she rescued a tiny pup from sure death. "Slice" is her precious import from Cambodia that loves to visit the Dog Park seven days a week. Like any child, she has her favorite circle of friends to play with both on the weekends and during the week. Natalie desires to be on the board to help the fellow committee members continue the good work they've started and to help bring some fresh, new ideas to the mix.
Jim Walters: Jim, of Long Beach, currently serves as president of the board. He was first elected to the board in 2000 and became secretary. He was reelected in 2003 and was named president a few months later when President Jim Knutson moved out of the area. Jim is running for what probably will be a last term on the board to see the fence-replacement project finished and a new watering area completed. His dogs are "Luther" and "Goldie."
