The Prayer

The lights are low--
Soft music plays.
Lovers dance slow
As the lonely pray.

The rain pours down--
She feels betrayed.
In her lovely gown
She begins to pray.

"God, can you hear me?
Show me a way,
Show me how to believe
I'll find love one day.

"God, are you listening?
Do you hear what I say?
I need a reason for living.
This, to you, I pray."

She sits to wait--
The clouds drift away.
It's getting late.
Dare she stay?

She rises to flee--
The last song plays.
He asks, "Dance with me?
This, to you, I pray."

Taken by surprise,
Her heart slowly breaks
And she softly cries.
God heard me pray.

God, have I thanked you
For the miracle you gave?
You've shown me a love so true.
God, I'm so glad I prayed.
