Ruwanveliseya in Anuradhapura

A majestic dagoba 300 feet in diameter  and over 30 feet

 high in Anuradhapura, the first capital city of ancient

Sri Lanka. Built by King Dutugemunu (167 – 137 B.C.).

Photo taken under the midday sun, placing the

glistening white of the Dagoba against the turquoise blue sky!

way to Horton Plains, the highest plateau in the

central hills.

Baker's falls

The most eye-catching waterfall found

in Horton Plains in the central hills. It is named

after Sir Samuel Baker (the Nile explorer)

who was a Planter in the hill county in 1846

during the British colonial era when the island was called Ceylon.

Chameleon

Peeping through the branches in Horton Plains.

Quenches its thirst by sipping the water droplets

off leaves. Mostly stationary and an

easy subject to photograph.

Horton Plains

The highest plateau found in the central hills at

2000 meters, temperature varying between 0c – 15c.

The plains are covered with wet grassland

and streams of crystal clear water.
