HistoryFounded in 1888 by the Rev. David Hughes who founded two churches: one for English speakers and the second for Welsh speakers, The first became Bethesda Pres. and long ago lost its Welsh identity. The second became the present Welsh Pres. Church. It was begun by 22 Welsh immigrants in the back of a store. When enough money had been raised the first building was purchased. By 1926 however a larger building was needed and the present building was purchased. This building had been built as a Jewish synagogue in 1909 and served as Sinai Temple. The church building is a registered Historic Landmark and featured as part of Jewish Historical Tours of Los Angeles. The Welsh Pres. Church is very proud of its part in the development of Los Angeles. We are also proud of it musical contributions:
