.: rag & flag :.

Rag & Flag is one of the most vibrant and memorable events on the campus calendar. Of all the campus-level activities, Rag & Flag is one which alumni remember most vividly and fondly.

Flag Day is an annual NUS tradition, when our students go forth and multiply to collect funds for our adopted charities. Flag Day is followed by Rag Day, where the halls and faculties showcase their spectacular floats and performances as a gesture of thanks to the community for their generous donations. These displays are a sight to behold – thousands of man-hours go into float production and rehearsals in fierce pursuit of hall and faculty pride. The audience experiences an electrifying event with a mardi gras atmosphere where the stands are always packed with eager onlookers.

Instead of building floats, the Law Faculty has established its own unique tradition of thanking the community with a gesture of service. Each year we “adopt” a home or school badly in need of a “facelift”, and with two weeks of hard work our freshmen and councillors give our adopted charity a new lease of life. In 2002, R&F was held at the Christian Home for the Aged at Novena. The new garden and the beautiful murals are just some of the marks we’ve left behind.

Look forward to hours of fun and games with their students, as well as hard but gratifying work!
