An accidental activist

Am I an activist? Maybe. I don't think so. My name is Iain. I'm the only organized thing here at Lavender Magic. I'm the guy who gets us registered and all that. I've been the "Gateway to the Other Side" (their title not mine!) for the Seattle AIDS memorial vigil, and the master of ceremonies for their Wicca / Pagan circle. Does this make me an activist?

I'm owned by three cats, and usually can be found buried under a stack of books listening to various types of techno/ethnic/folk/Gothic/industrial music, or occasionally out line dancing or shooting pool at Timberline Spirits. The cats refuse to comment on the line dancing.

I am a Witch. I also happen to be a Gay man. I also happen to work as a case manager for a public defender's office. So why Lavender Magic? Why march and all that? Because we still have ignorance, "isms", (racism, sexism etc.) and bigotry to fight. Because people think that their biological programming and beliefs are superior to others'.

Because in some places even now in the Land of the Free I'm considered "unnatural" or "immoral" or even "dangerous" (ooooh SCARY Iain!) Yup! I'm one of the religious right's worst nightmares and I am not going back into the closet! I'm here in the living room with the stereo on and my feet propped up! And guess what!

I BROUGHT FRIENDS!

Lavender Magic is for the Gay, Bi, Lesbian, Transgendered, Curious, Questioning, and yes Straight magical folk. For those who dare to seek and LIVE a dream of a world without hate, ignorance and bigotry. Once we figure out how to get rid of those, we'll be able take care of the rest of our world's problems.

So. Am I an activist? You decide. See ya at Pride!

Peace to you and yours.

Iain: The Lavender Mage.
