| I've been playing around with some of the fandoms I remember watching as a child. Even then I remember responding to the character relationships in a sort of 'innocent' slashy way ...yeah, I've always been like this. Scary, isn't it? One of my earliest memories is bringing home our first color TV and rushing my dad to get it set up so I could see the Seaview in Living Color. I couldn't have been more than 5 or 6 years old ... I found it again in my teens, this time really responding to the characters. Haven't seen it or thought about it in almost 30 years now. But when I started reading fanfic, I was reminded. Started digging around and found a wonderful fan site by a couple of the guys from Starlog: Mike's Voyage To the Bottom of the Sea Page. I found something interesting there. They talk about the close off-screen relationship between lead actors Richard Basehart and David Hedison. I realized that despite the often hokey scripts, it was that personal relationship that carried through to their characters that I had always responded to. |
