| As a schoolboy, Laurie Brettingham lived through the London Blitz in the Second World War, and saw some of the extensive preparations for D-Day in Southern England. He thinks that, perhaps, this sparked off his interest in history. After leaving school he worked for a newsagency in London prior to National Service in the Royal Air Force. He was later a London policeman and a primary school teacher in Hertfordshire. |
