ATV Hand Winch |
next |
Advice I've been getting has really put the wind up me about getting the ATV stuck in sand ridges somewhere out the back of Andamooka Island. The gear I already had would have been adequate to get me out of trouble in an emergency, but to extricate the ATV from half a dozen bogs in a day by those means would have been just too much. In an attempt to keep the weight down I've resisted fitting the winch that's been sitting in the shed for years. However, with the weight I've got on the rear rack, the ATV wants to go straight ahead so the extra weight on the front should help in turning. With 28 meters of cable on the drum, the winch will be far superior to the little hand ratchet I was planning on using and in some cases there may be enough length to get me to a tree to pull off. Of course, the aim is to not get bogged at all. I can do without sand all through the the moving parts of the ATV.
