Activity  # 1 Kite Friendly Letter
By yourself, click on the following buttons and take time to read the sites.

When you are finished reading these sites, minimize this page and open up Microsoft Word.  Your task is to write a friendly letter thanking the chinese for inventing the kite.  You need to answer the following questions: Why is the kite important to you?  How has it helped you?  How would your life be different without the kite? and How do you use a kite versus how the ancient Chinese used the kite? Be sure to check out the
rubric for the kite before you begin the writing task.


Activity # 2 Wheelbarrow Venn Diagram

With your group of 4, click on the following buttons and take time to read the sites.

When you are finished reading these sites,                       to bring you to the Venn Diagram in Word comparing and contrasting the uses of the wheelbarrow now and in Ancient China. You may look back any site at any time to help you complete this task.  You group will recieve an S+, S, or S- depending upon how well you complete the task. 


Activity # 3 Umbrella Kidpix

By yourself, click on the following buttons and take time to read the sites.

Then you will open up Kidpix. Once in Kidpix,  divide the screen in half and draw a picture to show how an umbrella is used today and how it was used in China. Words can accompany the picture if need be. You will receive a + for completing the task correctly or a - for not.

Activity # 4 Abacus In Excel

With your partner click on the following buttons and take time to read each site.

Finally, you and your partner will use Excel to creating a colorful replica of the paper abacus you made. You will receive a + for completing the task correctly or a - if not done correctly.

Activity # 5 Paper Webquest and Mock Debate


With your partner you will complete the following Webquest on paper if you

You will be scored from 0- 100 based on how many answers you give correctly.

The next part of the activity is where you and your partner will match up with another pair.  The 4 of you will be having a mock debate.  One side will be arguing that paper was the greatest invention of all time, the other pair will be arguing that paper was NOT the greatest invention of all time.  If the 4 of you cannot decide which pair will argue for what within 5 minutes of forming the group, then I will decide for you.  Be sure to check out the
mock debate rubric while planning your argument.  We will hold debates once each group is finished.  In the meantime you can                       and follow a fun paper lesson.

Activity # 6 Gunpowder Timeline
