Physics 100
Students learn the concepts and methods of modern physics. Emphasis on comprehension of the scientific approach to problem solving and understanding of fundamentals of physics in motion, forces and energy, heat and sound, structure of matter, electricity and magnetism, light and relativity. Course designed for liberal arts students and as preparation for mathematics-based physics courses.

This course fulfills the NS 2 area requirement for the liberal arts AA degree.

It is articulated with UH Manoa, UH Hilo and the UH Community Colleges

Phys 100 may be recommended as preparation for Phys 151 (Phys 106 at UHH, College Physics, algebra based) and for Phys 171 (University Physics, calculus based), required e.g. for a bachelors degree in information technology.

Prerequisites are Eng 21, or placement in Eng 102, and Math 22 or placement in Math 26

Fall 2002 Phys 100 will be offered as HITS course. Lectures held in Hilo will be transmitted by 2-way audio/video to West-HI. This course will be web and e-mail supported (hybrid course).

Here is the fun part: Phys 100 L, a laboratory course where students set up and run hands-on experiments, perform measurements, take notes and evaluate their own experimental results. Highly recommended!

For students in AAS programs Phys 50, Applied Physics, is offered on demand
