On the rare occasion that I receive an e-mail from a viewer of this site, it usually pertains to Lauren's music. Some person wants to know when her CD is finally coming out, or where some .mp3 can be found. Well, guess what? I don't know. But thanks to the Internet Archive Way Back Machine I've been able to travel back to 2001 and know just what in the world ya'll are referring to.
Lauren's 2001 Web site featured clips of the Barbra farewell concert. However, she also had a special page dedicated to her other recordings (which were available for download). The message that headed the top of the page read:
"Lauren is very excited about her recording project. Working with song-writer/producers Jim Tullio (whose production credits include Levon Helm & John Martyn) and John Scully, she has just finished five songs. The CD also features songs written by Richard Marx and Matthew Wilder."
The site from February 23rd, 2001 has the following songs listed
The Philadelphia Way [Tullio / Grissette]
Girl's Night [Tullio / Scully / Marinell]
All You'll Ever Need [Marx / Thompson]
I Can Dream Any Dream [Tullio / Marinall / Barrett]
Man Of 1,000 Dreams [Wilder / Prestipino]
I'll Be Your Cure [Tullio / Rans]
"The Philadelphia Way" included snippets of the O'Jays' "Love Train," the Delfonics' "La La Means I Love You," and the Stylistics' "You Make Me Feel Brand New." Lauren described in an interview with the Chicago Sun Times that the song is called Philadelphia Way "because I talk about if I could go back to the days when my mother and father met."
[Webmaster's note: "Man on 1,000 Dreams" can be downloaded at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/cafe_lauren_frost.]
"Lauren's music" section was revamped on January 21st, 2002. The message dwindled to the following:
"Lauren is very excited about her recording project, working with songwriters and producers from Los Angeles and Chicago."
The song selection was also changed.
Next To You [Benson]
Proud, Strong and Free [John Rusnak / Joseph Bille]
All You'll Ever Need [Marx / Thompson]
The Philadelphia Way [Tullio / Grissette]
Man Of 1,000 Dreams [Wilder / Prestipino]
Sometime in 2002, "Next to You" was featured of Audiogalaxy.com. It has, however, been removed and a serach on the Web site under "Lauren Frost" comes up empty.
On May 26th, 2002 the selection shrunk to two.
The Philadelphia Way [Tullio / Grissette]
Proud, Strong and Free [John Rusnak / Joseph Bille]
At this point, her Barbra music samples were removed completely.
And on September 22nd, 2002, the "Lauren's Music" section was completely cleared of any files.
For years, a message on her Web site read that "Lauren is very excited about her recording project; [she is] working with songwriters and producers from Los Angeles and Chicago."
Lauren did say in All About Barbra magazine that her goal is to record her own CD. That was in 2005. Her next official release was Words for the Birds in 2008.
