Kousoku Denjin Albegas
Three youngsters at Aoba school, Daisaku Enjyouji, Tetsuya Jin, and Hotaru Mizuki, assigned to control three robots, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma. These three robots can join to form the mighty Albegas, but unlike another super robot anime, there are six combinations that can be formed by these three robots. Lead by professor Mizuki, they're facing the Delinger army, which came from outer space to conquer the Earth. Through out the series, the Albegas team fall for the same enemy trap over and over again, like using an android disguised like human to trick one of the team members. Albegas gets help from their friend, Gorou Kumai, who created his own robot. Although not as strong as Albegas, Gorou's robot helps Albegas in tight situations.
Albegas takes place in an era presumably closer to the present than the eras of Golion and Dairugger. This show would have been hard to integrate with the other two shows because of the disparity of settings. The Japanese didn't seem to like it--it got axed after 45 episodes, rather than the standard number around 50, and it had no follow-up.
Albegas killed off the "Voltron Dynasty" in Japan--it was the last show in the quasi-series. I say "quasi-series" because none of the shows took place in the same universe, but all dealt with giant robots and were aimed at the same audience at the same time slot on the same network.
Professor Mizuki
The creator of Albegas. His wife passed away before the start of the series.
Saiko Asabuki
A close friend of Professor Mizuki. Presumably, she's Mizuki's girlfriend.
Daisaku Enjouji
Pilots Alpha robot, and acts as the leader of the team. He is a very cheerful young man, and has quite remarkable kendo skills.
Tetsuya Jin
Pilots Beta robot.
Hotaru Mizuki
Professor Mizuki's daughter. Pilots Gamma robot.
Gorou Kumai
He pilots the Gorilla Robot and is a real pal to the team. Sometimes aides them to escape tight situations. All other times he's daydreaming about him and Hotaru.
