| JOAN Sabrina, the majority of people can't live in a fantasyland. Life is not fun; its a lot of work and pain. SABRINA Dont you think I know that by now? I need something, some hope, some fulfillment in this world. I should at least enjoy my job. We have the choice to change. I know I cant change anyone else, but I can change myself. JOAN You cant live without money. SABRINA And, I cant live without my dream either. Lights out SCENE 11 Two days later. Evening. Dark. SABRINA and JOAN are under the same bridge. SABRINA At least I have a job! It's just a job, mom. That's what you wanted isn't it: me to make money and not to depend on acting? JOAN Sabrina you need to find a good, clean job, at least until you can find a nice man to take care of you- SABRINA Oh, you mean like you did? He took real good care of you didn't he? (Pause) Im sorry. I'm going to be late. (SABRINA exits) (JOAN takes a bottle of beer out of a brown bag opens it and then takes some pills out of her jacket and pops them into her mouth then takes a drink of the beer) Lights out SCENE 12 That night in Seattle, Washington. Inside a lap-dancers club, called Sintons Playhouse. A few men are scattered at the tables drinking hard liquor. GREG relaxes at table while smoking a cigar and drinking shots of vodka. GREG has his back towards the audience, darkness consumes him. A red spotlight turns on above SABRINA; She is dressed in a stripper's outfit. The music begins, but she just stands there. The MANAGER, a short, chubby man, comes out from behind the curtain and pushes her out towards the men yelling: MANAGER "I'm not paying you to just stand there!" (SABRINA stumbles down the stairs. After regaining her balance, she advances towards the men. The shy girl begins to dance very stiffly making sure to keep her distance. The men in the audience begin to boo her. SABRINA walks closer to GREG who shifts in his chair as if hes uncomfortable. At this point her body is barely touching his. A man next to her holds out some money, she grabs it and takes off up-stage and behind the curtain. The MANAGER, who's been watching the whole time is furious and chases after her to the costume room. Curious, GREG follows them backstage. The men in the audience are angered) Lights out |
