3-18-93

So much to tell, but I’m too tired to write. Yesterday (3-17) Maiol y I went to the coast to a little town called Sant Pol de Mar. Very peaceful. The beach was not sandy, but was made up of very tiny pebbles. I filled up a plastic water bottle to take home – some for Tina, some for me.

Maiol and I had lunch n a water-front bar, then Ferran y Guillum arrived. They brought some hashish with them and I couldn’t resist the temptation. We, actually they, rolled little chunks of it up with cigarette tobacco, then it was passed around like a regular joint. I never got a really euphoric feeling, just a little giddy and everything made me laugh. I don’t see its appeal at all.

We came home around 8:30, had dinner, then Maiol and I went to La Rambla to buy an English newspaper. I also picked up some more postcards and a pornographic comic book, for Ed. The Ramblas is busy even at night – lots of prostitutes and skinheads, but it feels very safe.

This morning Maiol woke me up at 9:00 and we went to Parc Guell to see Gaudi’s Park. I now know why Mom was so impressed with Gaudi – he saw and shaped the world as he saw fit. It’s wonderful!

We got on the wrong bus to come home, and we ended-up, barely, in sight of La Sagrada Familla. I wasn’t sure if my legs would make it the last two blocks.

We ate lunch, then Maria and I went to Mont Juec – Beautiful! The view of Barcelona was breathtaking. We saw the Olympic stadium, swimming pool (right on the hillside over-looking Barcelona,) diving pool, etc. No pictures as I was out of film.

We went to Poble Espanyol. For lack of a better explanation, I’m going to call it a theme park. In reality, it’s a tiny replication of famous buildings from different areas in Spain – amazing! Maria took my picture from different areas, so I can show that I went to Seville, Madrid, etc. While there we say a film about the history of the Catalan culture. It was fascinating and my only wish is that it was longer.

I’m falling asleep, so I’ll close, for now. Buenos Noches, amigos!

P.S. While at Montjuec, we also went to look at the Greek Theatre – took lots of pictures – it’s breathing it’s so natural and calm. I think that it was one of the most calm, peaceful, tranquil things here in Barcelona.
