I flew into Bangkok, Thailand mid-February 2001.  I just finished trekking in Nepal with my sister and brother in law, and they accompanied me down to a place that is as close to paradise as I have come.  Bangkok is a very pretty city that seemed very clean and full of positive energy.  Walking down the streets, I did not get approached or grabbed by any of the street vendors, trying to sell their goods.  On the other extreme, I actually felt like I was bothering some of them when inquiring on an item or price.
After only a day in Bangkok, we set off for a chain of islands off the west coast of Thailand, about an hour from Trang, a small town about 2/3rds the way down the Country.
We took a longboat (above) to Koh Mook, or Mook Island, where we stayed in thatched bungalows on the beach for the better part of a week.
The water was the clearest I'd ever seen and snorkeling around the base of surrounding islands, I saw tropical fish and coral like you would see on the National Geographic Channel.  Truely amazing stuff.
