During my trip back to the States in 2001, I decided to put a few extra miles on my trusty Ford Probe before I sold it, so I packed up again and took off for Arizona. Leaving Wichita, Ks. early in the morning, it took me approximately 12-13 hours of almost constant driving before I pulled into Flagstaff, AZ.
It's always nice to be able to travel to a new place and have someone to meet when you get there. Jeremy & Bobbie Anderson are a couple that I knew from Peace Corps, who have since called Flagstaff their home. Before I arrived, all I thought Arizona had to offer was a lot of red, hot, dry rock formations, lizards and cactus.
Driving into Flagstaff, I could have sworn I was in Colorado. Aspens and Evergreens lined the highway, and "Watch for Elk" signs were posted along the way. Flagstaff has a lot to offer...it is in a prime spot, really. To the north is the Grand Canyon and to the south is Sedona. An extinct volcano, lava tubes and boulders perfect for climbing, are all short drives away, tucked into the forest that surrounds the small town.
