In 1993, New Order released the album Republic which gave them four hit singles. By this time however, it was clear to see that no one in the group was really having much fun playing together. The thrill that had been present at the beginning of their musical journey had gone away. Even though their 1994 best of album reinforced their popularity the group didn't do anything to promote it. In the following years Gillian and Steve got married, Peter stayed busy playing for his wife's comedy show, and Bernard became a fan of the antidepressent Prozac.
Many believed that the end of New Order had arrived. However, the band surprised all of us by releasing a brand new album, the first in over eight years, in 2001 entitled Get Ready. They also toured on the very first Moby Area: One tour during the summer of 2001. Get Ready is a brilliant New Order album, showing their fans that they still have the talent which made them so popular in the late 80s and early 90s.
To me, New Order is just one of those really great bands that make you feel good when you listen to them. I just got their Live Recording from the BBC Radio Sessions, and all of these amazing beats in their song are just fun to dance and bob your head along to. They'd definitely be an awesome band to see live. I hope that I get the opportunity one day. |
