Trip Through the Neon Ballroom
As a senior in high school, I took a creative writing class.  In this class I often found myself pushing my writing abilities to the limit in order to come up with something that was unique and entertaining.  We had one assignment to write a poem that mimicked the Cantebury Tales.  The beginning section of the Canterbury Tales is an introduction basically of all of the people going on a pilgrimage.  I had a friend named Emily in this class who dared me to write about silverchair for every assignment that we had, since at the time I was pretty much obsessed with silverchair.  And so I decided that would be an interesting challenge. And so here is my poem, introducing you to silverchair. Enjoy!
In November when summer was fading away,
And trees bent down in order to pay
Homage to the mighty sun above
And flower the city with leaves of love,
There was a glorious feeling felt
As many a music lovers heart did melt
When word of an arrival began to spread
Which cause great excitement of the head.
A wonderful tour was coming to town
With a band who harbored an original sound,
And gained many fans known and unseen
At the ripe old age of sweet sixteen.
This band consisted of three young men
Who lived by the words sung on Pearl Jams Ten
And rocked out to Soundgardens mighty Cornell
Entrapped in a daze, lost in a spell
Cast by the alternative era that reached many worlds
Even Iowa farmers and nave Mid Western girls.
Five years after they started out,
After two long years of a rock and roll drought,
This teenage trio from down under
Brought wonderful music in rolling thunder
And sweet ballads filled with melodies
Anthems that could bring even the Clash to their knees.
This band that I speak of
Is one that I will forever love.
Even when music had seemed to go bare
I still had hope in the great silverchair.
Theyd traveled far and wide to bring
Music to everyone and everything.
Neon Ballroom was their new CD
Which blew everyone away, including me.
With two previous trips to Atlanta that year
And a great love for the city that was so sincere,
The boys prepared to come back to entertain
Their friends in Georgia once again.
They wanted to play a wonderful show
Since Atlanta was their first US date ever, you know.
And so there was much to be lived up to.
But I knew that these three guys could do
All that it took to reach each and every star
Look at all they had accomplished so far.
And now I will introduce you to them
Starting with the percussionist who I like to call Ben.
