After the completion of the 1989 album Disintegration, Robert fired Lol from the band.  Lol did not even play on the album, yet was still paid for it and listed in the liner notes under "other instruments."  By 1990, Simon and Boris were not getting along with Roger, and so he quit the band.  Roadie Perry Bamonte took over on keyboards.

In 1991, Lol took Robert to court, feeling that he had been cheated out of money that he felt he should've received for his contributions to the band.  Robert felt very hurt that Lol would take such a low blow at him.  Up until 1989, Robert and Lol had been the only original members of The Cure.
The years following 1991 were very busy for the Cure.  Between 1992 and 1996 they released four new albums.  In 1993, Lol lost his suit against Robert and was left with over a million pounds in legal bills.  Boris left the play to play with his giflriend's band, The Piggle, and Porl Thompson also left the band.  Roger O'Donnell returned to play keyboards, and a brand new guy, Jason Cooper, was brought in to play drums
