The year following the release of the album Pornography saw the departure of bassist Simon Gallup from the band, who had not been getting along with Robert.  This was really a shame since he and Robert had been such good friends.  Also during this time, Lol decided that he was switching from drums to keyboards.  During a brief hiatus from The Cure, Robert toured with The Banshees.  In 1984, The Cure went back on the road with Phil Thornalley playing bass and Andy Anderson on drums.  Porl Thompson also rejoined the band to play guitar

In 1984 when The Cure were on tour in the far east, Andy Anderson went crazy and started attacking other members of the band.  Robert fired him, and Vince Ely, the original drummer for the Psychedelic Furs filled in on drums for the rest of the tour.  After that tour, Phil Thonalley contacted a drummer her knew through work with Kim Wilde and The Thompson Twins.  This drummer was Boris Williams.  Boris learned all the songs very quickly and got a long with with the others in the band.

Soon after, Phil Thornalley decided that he wanted to persue a solo career, leaving the Cure without a bassit. However, this was the perfect opportunity for Simon and Robert to make up.  Simon rejoined the band as they started their next album
Head on The Door.  During this time, Lol began drinking, and wasn't doing much in band. After the release of their 1987 album Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me, Roger O'Donnell, a friend of Boris' was brought in to play keyboards.  Even though Lol was not doing much, he was still a member of  the band at this time

In August of 1987 Robert married his childhood sweetheart Mary Poole. The picture below is from their wedding day.
