Lasma
graduated from the Wellington Polytechnic School of design with
a diploma in Textile Design in 1970.
Since
then, Lasma has been working in carpet design, wall covering design
and interior design. She has also taught home decorating.
Lasma
has exhibited quilted wall hangings and mixed media murals in the
Wellington Art Gallery, Takapuna's pumphouse gallery and has participated
in numerous other exhibitions. The latest solo exhibitions for Lasma
at Takapuna's Bruce Mason Centre in May 2000, September 2001 and
October 2002 were extremely successful.
Painting
seriously for the last seven years, the main features of Lasma's
work have been her experiences gained as a textile designer. Accordingly,
her paintings in acrylic on canvas reflecting the colours and textures
previously used in textiles.
Lasma's
more recent paintings explore the evolution of nature and form capturing
life's experiences. The flexibility and opportunities that can be
explored using acrylic on canvas constantly fascinate Lasma, and
great joy is generated from experimentation with her chosen medium.
Lasma
would like her artwork to be considered as a celebration of colour,
form and energy.
