In PanenDeism, Divine Purpose is always present in the universe, but it is only manifested in one of two possible forms or aspects at any particular stage of evolution. These two aspects are known as Providence and Proleptic Urge. During the first four stages of evolution, where space-time and physical matter are being created, the term Providence[v] is used to describe that aspect of Divine Purpose that actually directs the �pushing down� or descending of the creative process from an Unmanifest Unity to three-dimensional, manifested, physical reality.
Without going into any more technical detail than is absolutely necessary (we hope that our extra-terrestrial friends have not yet fallen asleep!), a brief description of the �mechanics� of Process Evolution might be helpful. Beginning as part of an Unmanifest Unity in Stage One (Pure Purpose or Potential), the Unity (Alpha) actually creates physical reality by dividing Itself, or descending into, a one-dimensional reality (creating Time) where sub-atomic �particles� (actually, �packets of intelligent[iv] energy�) are formed as Stage Two of the evolutionary process. Stage Three is a further division of energy, creating space-time as individual atoms; a two-dimensional level of reality, according to Young. Stage Four, with the creation of molecules, is the final stage of three-dimensional, physical matter, but the process is far from over.
The physical universe (manifest reality) is an absolutely necessary component of Process Evolution as a whole, and can be thought of as a �staging area�; a physical requirement for life to form and for Creation to proceed to more advanced stages. At Level Four, if certain temperature and other requirements are met, molecules (like the DNA molecule) organize into individual cells; which organize (entering Stage Five) into a new �species�- early organic life.
For the first time, evolution has now produced something that is no longer completely dependent on its environment for the energy needed to operate or to grow. This new species (early plant life) develops the ability to store energy for future use- a huge accomplishment! The chlorophyll molecule is the actual molecule that Providence has developed to collect photons in the visible light range, which are stored in starch, sugar, and cellulose molecules for use in future growth.
Also at Stage Five, evolution has taken a distinctly different direction. Providence, that aspect of Divine Purpose that directs the �pushing down�, or descending of evolution through the four levels of reality into physical matter, now gives way for the Proleptic Urge; which is described as that aspect of Divine Purpose that directs the �pulling up�, or ascending of the evolution of life through a process known as Divine Attraction, back through the four levels of reality towards a final goal of evolution for that particular species known as Omega. We will return to the Omega in a moment.
Stage Six introduces the first non-plant, single and multiple-celled organisms that eventually become early animal life. At some point in Stage Six, consciousness develops; bringing us to Stage Seven with the development of the Anthropotheous- the technical term for �Man-God� or humanity�s Omega.
It is in the Omega that the Divine Purpose is fully actualized. The Omega represents the potential- but not the guarantee- of what a particular species can attain to. Proleptic is PanenDeism�s word for �a snapshot of a future, Divine Potential.� Available at all levels of life with increasing abilities to access it, the Proleptic Urge is what actually drives the evolution of consciousness (sometimes consciously, sometimes not) in the universe toward a particular species� individual Omega. In PanenDeism, Jesus is known as a �Proleptic Exemplar�; a snapshot, or preview, of the Divine example of what we ALL can become; should we learn to completely trust the �urge� that is freely offered to guide us in our individual, spiritual paths.
