| Day 3: Landsberg to Nrdlingen | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| I'll leave Landsberg this morning just after 9 AM and head north by rail for Augsburg, Donauwrth, Harburg, and Nrdlingen. As of this writing, I don't see anything in Augsburg worth a prolonged stop. Augsburg is readily accessible by train from Munich, so I will pass it by. If I later decide that there was something to see in Augsburg, I can easily come back on another trip. After a change of trains in Augsburg, I will stop for a couple of hours in Donanwrth. Donauwrth has the remains (just barely) of a fortress built there a thousand years ago. In addition to some interesting Fachwerk buildings, there is the remains of a town wall and a statue where the Donau (Danube) and Wrnitz rivers come together. I'll leave my bag here in a locker at the station in Donauwrth while I tour the town for a few hours. Then I will head for Harburg, to visit a very interesting castle there. After visiting Harburg, I will come back (11 minutes) to pick up my bag before heading north to Nrdlingen for the night. |

| Day 4: Nrdlingen to Feuchtwangen | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Today will be my shortest travel day yet, with just over an hour by bus. This part of the Romantic Road, Nordlingen to Dinkelsbuhl to Feuchtwangen, plus Harburg and maybe Donauworth, is perhaps the most interesting part of the Romantic Road. The towns are very close together with plenty to see in each. I will have all morning to visit Nrdlingen. Nrdlingen is interesting for having an almost intact city wall. Also, Nrdlingen was built inside an ancient meteorite crater. They say that from the top of the tower on the Rathaus, you can see the rim of the crater in the distance. After touring Nrdlingen, I will head by bus for 40 minutes to Dinkelsbhl, another town with an almost intact city wall. After 3 hours exploring Dinkelsbhl, I will head on (18 minutes) to Feuchtwangen for the night. |

| Day 5: Feuchtwangen to Weikersheim | Nrdlingen | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Compared to yesterday, this will be one of my longest days on the road (about 4 hours). After an hour or so to see Feuchtwangen, I again head north by bus (1 1/2 hour) to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Since I have already been to Rothenburg twice, I will not do any sightseeing here, but there will be time for lunch. After lunch I head continue my trip by bus to Weikersheim. I'll go first to Creglingen. I am now in Baden-Wrttemburg. From here to Wrzburg is my only time outside of Bavaria. From Creglingen, I will go to Laudenbach, a small town on the outskirts of Weikersheim, for the night. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Day 6: Weikersheim to Wrzburg | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This will be the shortest travel day of my trip, less than an hour. I'll take the train in the morning (4 min) to Wiekersheim and see the palace there. Then I will head on to Wrzburg. Since I have all day to get to Wrzburg, I can take my time. I think I will stop in Bad Mergentheim. Bad Mergentheim used to be the headquarters for the Teutonic Order of Knights; there is a museum there about it. From there I will go to Lauda and on to Wrzburg. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
