Day 7: around Wrzburg
Day 7 is the end of the Romantic Road part of my trip, the midpoint of my travel, and my first time since Oberammergau to spend two nights in one place.  I will have an entire day to explore Wrzburg.  My first priority will be the fortress, Marienburg, followed by the Residenz.

Day 8: Wrzburg to Frth
After a relaxing day exploring Wrzburg, I head off the next morning for the Nrnberg area via Bamberg.  I expect to have about 3 1/2 hours in Bamberg before I head to the Nrnberg area.  For the night I will stay in Frth, a small town on the outskirts of Nrnberg.  Maybe I will get there early enough to go into Nrnberg that evening.
Day 9: Nrnberg, then on towards Passau
From where I am staying in Frth, it is just a short U-bahn trip into Nrnberg.  My plans for the city are still a little vague.  There are city walls, a fortress, a fountain - I'm not sure what I want to see.

After Nrnberg, I will head on the train toward Passau.  I won't actually go all the way to Passau, but will spend the night a few miles up the river (Donau) in the town of Vilshofen.

Day 10: Passau to Burghausen
In the morning I will head straight for Passau.  Passau is at the confluence of three rivers, the Donau, the Inn, and the smaller Ilz.  After spending the morning in Passau, I will go by train to Burghausen.
Day 11: Burghausen to Munich
Burg im Burghausen
Passau
Burghausen boasts the longest fortress in Germany, as you can see in the picture.  The river in the foreground is the Salzach, at this point the border between Germany and Austria.

In the morning I get up and tour the castle in Burghausen.  Around noon I take the train to Poing, in the eastern suburbs of Munich.  Hotel Strasser was one of the first places I ever stayed in Germany (1987), and I have stayed there more times (albiet not more days) than any other place in Germany.  I had thoughts of staying these two night in Ttzing, on Starnbergersee, closer to Andechs, but it would have made a long trip to the airport for my flight home.
Day 12: Side trip from Poing to Andechs Monastery
The monastery at Andechs is easily accessible via S-bahn and a short bus ride from Munich.  An S5 leaves Munich Hbf S-bahn station at 9:07 and gets into Herrsching at 9:55.  From there you catch a bus at 10:05 which takes you to the Monastery at 10:15.  Since I will be staying in Poing, in the eastern suburbs, I will be leaving the hotel a little earlier so I can be on the 9:07 S-bahn from the Hbf.
